The position comes from a survey, so expect to be within a few metres rather than standing at the trunk.
Is this the one?
What to check when you get there.
- It should be an ash.
- It's 7.2 m round the trunk, about 5 people holding hands round it. That's the easiest check there is.
- It's recorded as a stump, so look low: a broad cut or broken trunk, possibly with new shoots.
- Only part of it is still standing, so look for a shell or a broken trunk rather than a whole tree.
- The position came from a surveyor, so it can be a few metres out. If two big trees are close together, the girth usually settles it.
