Where it is

Little Warley, Brentwood

The position comes from a survey, so expect to be within a few metres rather than standing at the trunk.

Is this the one?

What to check when you get there.

  • It should be an oak.
  • It's 6.8 m round the trunk, about 5 people holding hands round it. That's the easiest check there is.
  • It's a maiden: one trunk, never cut back, so look for a single tall stem.
  • It's recorded as dead, so expect bare wood and no leaves.
  • People round here may know it as Harold (How old is that tree?!), and there's sometimes a sign.
  • The position came from a surveyor, so it can be a few metres out. If two big trees are close together, the girth usually settles it.
