The position comes from a survey, so expect to be within a few metres rather than standing at the trunk.
Is this the one?
What to check when you get there.
- It should be a sessile oak.
- It's 7.3 m round the trunk, about 5 people holding hands round it. That's the easiest check there is.
- It's recorded as a stump, so look low: a broad cut or broken trunk, possibly with new shoots.
- It's recorded as dead, so expect bare wood and no leaves.
- People round here may know it as Queen Elizabeth Oak, and there's sometimes a sign.
- The position came from a surveyor, so it can be a few metres out. If two big trees are close together, the girth usually settles it.
