Rostrevor, County Down

The position comes from a survey, so expect to be within a few metres rather than standing at the trunk.

Is this the one?

What to check when you get there.

  • It should be a hybrid sessile and English oak.
  • It's 7.6 m round the trunk, about 5 people holding hands round it. That's the easiest check there is.
  • It has several stems rather than one trunk, so look for a clump growing from a single base.
  • People round here may know it as The Five Brothers Oak, and there's sometimes a sign.
  • The position came from a surveyor, so it can be a few metres out. If two big trees are close together, the girth usually settles it.
